The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: Peddler, hawker, canvasser and house-to-house salesman mean any person who engages in the selling or taking of orders from house to house for any commodity of any kind or character from any vehicle or carried upon such person engaged in such business in the village, except where such person has a place of business situated within the village limits.
